Mozilla Foundation Unveils Thunderbird 3

The makers of the immensely popular internet browser, Firefox, the Mozilla Foundation has announced that, it almost ready to roll out the all new version of its popular POP3 email client, Thunderbird. The newly updated version is known as Thunderbird 3. This email software although not so much popular as the Firefox browser, still has been able to garner a significant user base and has been in use by major corporations, who prefer Thunderbird, over the traditional email clients such as, Microsoft Outlook and Outlook Express.

One of the most sought after feature, that has now been inculcated in the Thunderbird 3, is the add-ons that will now be compatible with the new version. Add ons have a crucial factor in the success and popularity of the Firefox browser and hence, the Mozilla messaging team realizing the potential of the add ons have finally provided the feature in the improved email client. One such add on will provide the users with the ability to see who all are following them on Twitter and will be able to follow them as well, right in Thunderbird 3 itself.

A major change that prove extremely valuable to the users who aren’t familiar with the POP or IMAP server configurations, is the new setup wizard, that is much more concise and far more simplified than its predecessors. The users will only need to enter their name, e-mail ID and password and Thunderbird 3 will take care of the rest. For example, user will no longer be required to configure the sever details for their POP3 GMail accounts. Instead the newly updated Thunderbird will set up the configuration for them.

According to David Ascher (CEO, Mozilla Messaging),

“The original idea of e-mail, putting messages in folders one by one, was reasonable when we got ten messages a day. Now that we get a couple hundred or more, that’s a huge burden . We made archive really easy and complemented it with (an) easy-to-use search experience.”
