Multi-Touch Sound Storm: An Auditory Experiment

If you are into weird music or ever have experimented with sound technology, you would know that sound consists of waves, and that every note has a frequency. When the sound note is below or above human perceptive abilities, that can’t be heard.

However, thanks to technology, you can recreate many sounds that can’t be heard in real through digital manipulation. While we have already seen this kind of technology earlier, the Multi-Touch Sound Storm is an interesting way to see how sounds are generated and how much auditory confusion exists amidst us.

The technology provides interactive sound visuals so you can understand how the sound changes. It is more like your volume indicator which moves as the music is played, depending on the sound and frequency. However, this technology is interactive and you can alter using the multi touch screen.

You could take a look at all the videos given on Michael Shirley‘s blog to get a better idea. I would say, it is a great way to spend a boring Sunday afternoon. You could control the multi touch points thanks to the Community Core Vision and reacTIVision, with sound from Logic, Reaktor, and Max/MSP. Auxiliary control with a joystick array and KORG KAOSS Pad. It has been created by Christian Bannister.
