Must European Commission Interfere in MySQL’s Future?

Open source expert Tim Yeaton, who is president and CEO of American Black Duck Software, feels that European Commission (EC) should not dirty its hands in the mergers between companies for it is going to cause more damage than good. He feels that EC should not involve itself in the merger of Oracle and Sun nor with the future of MySQL.

Interference by EC could lead to suffocating the open source and free markets which would spiral down to a sort of communist condition where everything had to pass through certain regulations. MySQL is typically important in these times since even Amazon is built upon it. While one can’t deny that Yeaton is correct in what he says, it is also impervious that EC takes control of the situation and brings some kind of order in the free market, and in open source.

This should be done to maintain the ethics and principles which companies and individuals usually lack. We certainly do not want to see a state of anarchy, would we? Whatever the case might be, EC must stay away from the future of MySQL and other open source groups, unless they do not follow ethics.
