Nazi Camp Guard Convicted Of Genocide & War Crimes

One of the most brutal regimes the world has ever seen, the Nazis, wreaked havoc and performed unspeakable atrocities on Jewish and other races in its various concentration camps. Mass genocides have also been regularly associated with Adolf Hitler and his regime. Since the end WWII, numerous tribunals and courts have convicted and prosecuted many Nazi associates, with some them being sentenced to death. These tribunals have been an immense source of closure for the surviving victims of the concentration camps and for the relatives of those who perished in these death camps.

In a recent indictment, a former Nazi camp guard, John Demjanjuk has been charged with crimes against humanity for his role as an accomplice in a Nazi death camp genocide, that claimed 27,900 lives during the peak of the second World War. However, Demjanjuk has repeatedly denied these allegations and have asserted that, he was a victim of the concentration camp in question and not a perpetrator.

John Demjanjuk is a native Ukrainian and had been residing in the United States, from where he was deported to be tried in a German court. In the year 1988, John was also charged in an Israeli court and was alleged to be the infamous, ‘Ivan The Terrible’. But he was later acquitted of those charges in the year 1993 on the basis of ‘mistaken identity’. His United States citizenship was also revoked pertaining to the fact that he hid his Nazi background at the time of seeking asylum in U.S in the year 1952.

John Demjanjuk’s trial date hasn’t been announced by the court, due to his deteriorating health condition. However, according to the Munich state prosecutor, Anton Winkler, Demjanjuk’s could very well begin by autumn of this year.
