The fact that Neil Berrett did not work as a baker and had nothing to do with cakes and does not even plan on a future in baking did not stop him from presenting his boss with his resignation letter in the form of a cake. It has me wondering if any love letters he wrote are still up for ingestion.
Neil Berrett may have decided to leave his job but he did it in such a creative and humorous way that it would remain in his boss’ and co-workers’ minds for a damn long time. In fact, his story is of the sort that makes office myths and legends. Perhaps good looking Neil Berrett had more than just a fondness for someone in his company and wished to declare, before he left, that he was available for a position that would include the art of baking. For those of you wondering how well the cake turned out, the creative baker insists it was “delicious and well received”. Neil Berrett is currently working at Hunters Point Naval Shipyard, SF, serving his last week at his beloved job.
The cake that Neil Berrett gifted his boss had his resignation letter written on it in icing and stated the reason for leave as health issues and his desire to spend more time with his family. He also expressed his joy at having worked at the company for three years. Neil Berrett has become an instant celebrity on Flickr where he posted the picture. Apart from the many kudos and invites he has received is one from the admin of the group ‘Pink Shirted Men Holding Resignation Pattisserie’ which Neil Berrett would become president of by default. Also, taking cue from Neil, one of Neil’s newest fans on Flickr, Rufus, has applied for the position that Neil is leaving by offering to print his CV on a cake!
