microsoft bing News Corp & Microsoft To Get Into A Search Deal

Since the announcement by the media mogul, Rupert Murdoch that, News Corp might be on its way of de-indexing its websites from Google search engine, Microsoft Corporation it seems has finally found a break that it was looking for. Reports have surfaced that, Microsoft is in talks with News Corp in an effort to persuade the media giant to allow Microsoft’s Bing search engine to index the websites owned by News Corp.

Sources close to the talks have stated that, the negotiations between News Corp and Microsoft are in very early stage and it would be too soon to make any sort of a concrete judgment. There have also been reports of Microsoft approaching various other online publishers, in an effort to persuade them to deindex their websites from Google and let Microsoft’s Bing index those websites.

This bold step from Microsoft could trigger a never before seen search market trend, where Microsoft Bing might have to pay the websites, for the companies to allow indexing of their websites by the search engine and this would establish a monopoly of Bing on the information that is displayed in the free search results on search engines like Google.

However, the media outlets and the online publishers believe that if such a trend does get into effect, it would make it extremely difficult for the search engines to acquire indexing rights of major publications as the online publishers will be asking for a big bag of money. Even, Rupert Murdoch is quite skeptical of the idea and believes that, even Microsoft might not be able to afford the online publishers’ monetary demands. In a statement, Mr. Murdoch said,

“If they were to pay everybody for everything they took, from every newspaper in the world and every magazine they wouldn’t have any profits left.”
