North Korea breaks all peace agreements with South Korea

North Korean authorities have announced that they are breaking all agreements with neighboring South Korea, blaming the hostile policy of Seoul for this decision. What is disturbing is that the dissolution involves all agreements that relate to the issue of ending the political and military confrontation between North and South. The points being canceled are reconciliation, non-aggression, exchanges, and cooperation.

The military borders of the West Sea are currently of specific attention. Military confrontation is now something that is being made possible. With the dissolution of the basic agreement signed between the two sides in 1991 and further ratified by a meeting between the leaders of the two Koreas in 2000, North Korea’s move is synonymous with hostilities. The situation at the two countries’ borders is back to being volatile.

North Korea has been showing a stubborn attitude, especially with its insistence to further develop its alleged nuclear capability. The country announced over state media that South Korea’s government had pushed relations “to the brink of a war.” Seoul regrets North Korea’s move, while the US thinks the situation is beyond help. What the US is more pressed to do is to denuclearize North Korea. The peace talks between the two Koreas had taken a long time to forge. Now that peace agreements are broken, another round of military confrontations can be expected. It seems that this region does not really like peace.
