North Korea has begun mud slinging at the United States accusing it of creating circumstances that would give it an excuse to wage an nuclear war against the immensely isolated communist country. This accusation comes in the wake of President Obama’s promise of providing nuclear protection to South Korea against any threats posed by its neighbor, North Korea.
After last week’s meeting between President Obama and South Korean President Lee Myung-bak in Washington, North Korean state-run press Tongil Sinb said;
“Obama’s commitment to South Korea’s security, including through U.S. nuclear protection, only revealed a U.S. plot to invade the North with nuclear weapons. It’s not a coincidence at all for the U.S. to have brought numerous nuclear weapons into South Korea and other adjacent sites, staging various massive war drills opposing North Korea every day and watching for a chance for an invasion.”
However, Washington has made it clear that it has no nuclear weapons anywhere in or near the Korean peninsula and neither does it has any intentions of placing them there.
Amidst increased international pressure, North Korea has again asserted that, its nuclear weapons program is a show off force and a deterrent against the United States. The communist regime has been long criticizing the U.S for its efforts to gather international support with which, Washington wishes to bring about a North Korean regime change.

U.S, China, Russia, Japan and South Korea were successful in bringing North Korea for the ‘six party talks’ where they tried to convince N.Korea to abandon its nuclear weapons program, in exchange of international aid and support. North Korea responded to the negotiations and in June 2008, as a demonstration of understanding, it demolished a cooling tower of the Yongbyon Nuclear Reactor. However, after its long range missile test earlier this year and with the international criticism that came with it, Pyongyang declared itself out of the ‘six party talks’ and accelerated its nuclear program.
