North Korea Inching Closer To Nuclear Weapons Capability

North Korea today declared that, it has infact completed the reprocessing of the spent nuclear fuel, that can be later used to create nuclear weapons. This latest statement is being viewed as Pyongyang’s way of pressurizing the United States to restart the bilateral talks.

North Korea has informed the United Nations that, in the month of September, it had begun the process of reprocessing the spent fuel rods that were extracted from the Yongbyon nuclear reactor, that was demolished in the year 2008. Furthermore, Pyongyang had also declared that, the plutonium extracted from the reprocessing was being prepared to be weaponized for the country’s nuclear weapons program.

As per the official estimated from South Korea and the United States, if North Korea has indeed completed the reprocessing of the spent fuel rods, then the country might have the capability to manufacture six to eight nuclear weapons. As per a report run the state news agency of North Korea, K.C.N.A stated that, North Korea has finished reprocessing the 8,000 spent fuel rods from the Yongbyon reactor and is extremely close to manufacturing nuclear weapons with the extracted plutonium.

In a recent statement, the United Stated had announced that, under no circumstances will a nuclear North Korea be accepted by the United States or by the international community. However, today’s announcement by Pyongyang has changed the situation dramatically as the Communist regime insists that, it needs nuclear deterrent to repel any impending U.S invasion. There have been a string of strict political and economic sanctions on North Korea imposed by the United Nation, that has left the country high and dry and completely isolated from the world.
