The highly paranoid and reclusive communist regime of North Korea today issued a statement marking the beginning of the year 2010 and has stated its wish to put an end to the “hostile relationship” with the Unites States of America. This latest statement from Pyongyang is being viewed as a negotiation tactic towards the highly fluctuating six part disarmament talks.

In a state controlled media editorial, Pyongyang has stated that country has long wished to make the immensely volatile Korean Peninsula into a nuclear free region that is dominated by peace and this can be achieved through dialogue and negotiations. Furthermore, its leadership also wants to bring stability in its relations with the U.S and its neighbor, South Korea. With today’s revelations, many analysts now believe that, North Korea could seriously be considering the prospect of peace and nuclear disarmament in the region ahead of the negotiations that, have largely revolved around ending the communist regime’s nuclear program which has been condemned by the international community on several occasions.

However, how long does this mindset of Pyongyang lasts is clearly speculative, the country has in the past issued similar comments and then conducted missiles tests and military exercises close to the South Korean border, displaying its military might, along with major naval clashes between North and South Korea last year alone. After the infamous Korean War in the year 1950-53, the peninsula was divided into North and South Korea and the region has been technically in a state of war. But as South Korea progressed and prosperous under the umbrella of the international community, especially, the U.S, the more close minded North Korea further regressed into a state of poverty with severe humanitarian aid concerns and a population that has repeatedly been hit with famines and an extremely low literacy rate.
