After severe criticism by the UN Security Council of its recent rocket launch, North Korea angrily threatened to ignore all international negotiations for it to halt its nuclear program. The communist regime has even threatened to enable once more its nuclear reactor.
The country rejected the UN resolution, saying that it will no longer participate in these negotiations and will not be bound by any agreement reached in these talks. Moreover, Pyongyang also indicated that it would consider building a reactor to supply nuclear energy and will continue with its ‘sovereign right’ to peaceful use of space based on international law, against the ‘tyranny’ of the UN Security Council.
On Monday, the Security Council condemned North Korea for launching a long range rocket and urged the country not to repeat such action. The UN says it is in violation of Resolution 1718, adopted by the body in October 2006. Resolution 1718 calls on Pyongyang to suspend activities related to its ballistic missile program. The US considers the launch as a test of North Korea’s ballistic missile program.
The communist regime in Pyongyang has been reassuring its critics that what it launched was an experimental communications satellite on a carrier rocket, not a missile under testing.
