In a strongly worded statement issued today, North Korea has issued as stern warning to the South Korean government, regarding Seoul’s cont nous naval exercises at disputed maritime border between the two countries. Pyongyang has stressed that, any “reckless” incursion from South Korea, could very well lead to a bloody clash between the naval forces of the North and South. According to the North Korean navy, South Korean warships have breached the border many times during the last few days, with 10 incursions counted for the day Monday alone. The alleged incidents took place in the waters off the west coast.
Ina statement released by North Korean Central News Agency, the military said,
“The reckless military provocations by warships of the South Korean navy have created such a serious situation that a naval clash may break out between the two sides in these waters.”
Even with this fresh statement from Pyongyang, the relations between the two countries seem to be getting stable, as both countries step towards a mutual understanding of each others concerns. Recently, an apology offered by North Korea to Seoul shocked the world, as it has been a long time, since either country had issued an official apology. The apology came after an incident, where Pyongyang had released excess water from one of the dams, that led to the death of six South Korean civilians. On humanitarian front, South Korea has announced that, it will continue its food aid to the starving North Korean population, thereby proving again that, Seoul aims at improving relations with the North and not engage in an all out war.
According to Hyun In-taek (Unification Minister, South Korea),
“We will provide limited humanitarian assistance to the most vulnerable groups in North Korea regardless of political and security circumstances. We will do our part to end the suffering of our brothers in the North.”
