With yesterday’s four short range missile tests, North Korea has again made a mockery of the international community, especially, the United States of America and the United Nations. Pyongyang test fired for short range missiles from its east coast, adding more tensions in already volatile Korean peninsula.
As per the information given by South Korean daily, Yonhap, it seems the tests were conducted with Scud missiles, that in itself violates the recently imposed United Nations resolution, that prohibits North Korea from firing ballistic missiles such as the Scud. According to the newspaper,
“North Korea fired two missiles, which appeared to be a Scud type. The missiles are estimated to have the range of about 500 km (310 miles).”
South Korean Defense Ministry official have confirmed that, North Korea launched four missiles, off its east coast, that traveled a distance of 400kms, indicating that it was a ballistic missile. According to a report by the Japanese daily, North Korea may have also test fired, a Rodong class missile, which is medium-range missile, covering about 1,000 km to 1,400 km, hitting most parts of Japan and can cover entire South Korea.
In a statement, Japan’s foreign ministry said,
“Japan strongly protests and regrets today’s missile launches by North Korea as they are a serious act of provocation against the security of neighboring countries, including Japan, and is against the resolution of the U.N. Security Council.”
