Perhaps the most infamous of all World War 2 structures, Auschwitz death camp is known to be one of the most brutal and sadistic of all concentration camps operated by Adolf Hitler’s Nazi party. An estimated 3 million people lost their lives in this building, the majority of them being Jews, who were exterminated as part of a racial cleansing campaign.
Now, that same infamous building is being revisited online and has been given a new veil of a significant historic monument, with the launch of a Facebook page dedicated to the monument. The all new page is has been started by the Auschwitz memorial museum, in an effort to reach out to the younger generation, so that the memory of those who perished, would not wash away with time. The Auschwitz Facebook page has already gathered over one thousand and users from a wide spectrum of nationalities, race and creed have commented on the page, most of them saying “Never Again”, to the holocaust, that forever left a gruesome mark on the history of mankind.
According to Pawel Sawicki (Spokesperson, Auschwitz Memorial Museum),
“This is a kind of an experiment on our side. Facebook is the tool that young people are using to communicate, so if we want to reach them, we should be using their tool.”
Although, Facebook is filled with pages in regards to Auschwitz, users can find the dedicated page, by keying the search string, “Auschwitz Memorial” and join the page. Users can comment on the holocaust that took place at Auschwitz, reply to other users’ comments and can also take active part in discussions initiated and moderated by the memorial museum staff.
