The all new version of the web browser, Firefox, is all set to be embedded with an innovative API (application Programming Interface), that will detect the user’s notebook’s orientation of operation. Meaning, that if the notebook is listing to the left side, then the browser will itself change its position and further provide the other applications running inside the browser with the same information. This unique feature will be available in Firefox 3.6.
The all new API will be fully compatible with virtually all the notebooks and notebooks that are equipped with accelerometers. Furthermore, the same API is also being integrated for desktop users. The sole reason for this strange feature is to provide the gaming manufacturers with relevant information, so as to enable them to create more elaborate gaming platforms.
According to Christopher Blizzard (Mozilla),
“One new feature that we’re including as part of Firefox 3.6 is support for web pages to access machine orientation information if it’s available. Many modern MacBooks and ThinkPads contain devices and drivers that expose this information. We’ve added support for Linux, Macs and some ThinkPads where drivers and devices are available.”
The orientation API for Firefox 3.6 has also been developed for Linux, Macs and a wide series of ThinkPads. According to Mozilla, this entire concept was conceived for the mobile version of Firefox, but has also been inducted into laptops and desktops to test its effectiveness and efficiency.
