With the advent of online movie streaming on personal computers, the video rental statistics have dropped considerably. Users nowadays prefer watching movies on their computers, without any time limitations and other stipulations, that come along with the movie rental practice. One of the biggest video-rental chains in America, Blockbuster Inc, has been the hardest hit with the new online viewing trend.

To stay in the game and keep its consumer intact, Blockbuster has announced that, it is working on a partnership deal with Samsung America to provide its consumers with on-demand movies directly on their television sets. As per the agreement announced today, the next line of Samsung high-definition televisions will be embedded with a feature that would the consumers to rent DVD movies from Blockbuster directly to their television sets, with just the press of a button.

The Blockbuster on demand DVD rental service will be available to all U.S consumers from fall this year. This service is expected to have price tag of $1.99 to $3.99 per movie with a 24 hours time limit and will be transferred over high-speed broadband connections. This new agreement will also be available on Samsung’s Blu-ray DVD players and home theater systems.

For Samsung Inc, this deal with Blockbuster Inc. has been exceptionally wonderful, as Samsung will be able to sell more of its high-definition televisions to the masses, as such a package would be really enticing for the consumers. Apart from the Blockbuster agreement, Samsung will also be in an agreement with digital video recording TiVo Inc. that would also be providing consumers with online streaming on television.
