Canonical announced this week the official launch of Ubuntu 9.10 Desktop Edition, which provides a free service of Cloud Computing. Starting today the open source operating system is available for download free of charge.

Among all the changes, the distribution of resources to the throne brings it more friendly to users, such as the boot process and faster login, structure audio renewed and improved 3G broadband connectivity. For users of mobile computers such as notebooks and netbooks, OS developers worked on improving the Remix interface, designed for laptops. It has instant messaging program Empathy, which facilitates the transfer of files of text, voice and video.

“The Ubuntu 9.10 gives users more reasons than ever to seriously consider Linux, in a time when many are rethinking their choice of operating systems. We are providing a platform for users interested in an operating system easy to use, with great visual and user friendly for browsing the Web, “said Jane Silber, COO of Canonical. “A boot sequence, a better log file sync, the possibility of adding and interacting with contacts in different ways, more attractive online services and great experiences with the notebooks, desktops and most popular netbooks, really puts Ubuntu in a very good position.

However, one of the most interesting resources is the Ubuntu One: a package of online services, based on cloud computing, launched in beta in May 2009. It works as a personal cloud on the web, facilitating the processes of backup, synchronization and file sharing.

In addition, it provides online synchronization of contacts and a message system called Tomboy notes. According to Canonical, users will have free up to 2GB to store their data in the cloud.
