Obama and the U.S. Economy: What’s it Going to be Like?

United States now has a new president, Barack Obama. The crowd cheered his name as he made the inaugural speech. Thousands of people watched him as he was sworn in as the 44th US president.

Obama has raised hopes of millions of people when he said, “tonight we celebrate, but tomorrow the work begins”. Amidst the celebration, serious issues were raised. Emphasis was laid on the economic recession, on responsibly withdrawing troops from Iraq, and also restoring peace in Afghanistan. The president now seeks to temper the soaring expectations.

The top priority is to create more jobs in the “badly weakened” economy, with an estimated stimulus package of $ 825 billion. Recession has left the country with $1 trillion and has left 11 million people jobless. Obama has already a lot in his hand for now. Obama also offered some conciliatory words to the Islamic community and a new relationship should be forged based on mutual trust and respect. The atmosphere is positive, its only time that will tell if Obama has actually performed what he has promised to do and if America can rally the worst economic crisis smoothly.
