Obama’s speech in Prague, Czech Capital about Nuke free world is historic indeed. The place is historic; it was the standoff point between West and Soviet Union during Cold War. The speech which was delivered after few hours of North Korea’s rocket launch has global political connotations too. Urgency of getting rid of nuclear threat is understood. But will US really lead from the front?

Obama mentioned in the same breath that US will continue to build nuclear missile defense shields in Europe as long as Iran posed a threat. He did pledge that US will cut nuclear arsenal, work towards non-proliferation and bring CTBT (Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty) in to force.

As long as conflicts and polarities exist it would be difficult to rein in nuclear and other arms race. Terrorists are already ripping world apart with sophisticated weapons and explosives. Reality is indeed scary and grim.

Each nation perceives other as a threat. Intolerance and hatred is high. In the name of defense everyone has built and stocked arsenals. Obama’s dream of Nuke free world seems totally Utopian.
