Offshore Floating Poseidon to Generate Power from Waves and Wind

With pressing needs to develop clean and renewable energy resources with greater efficiency innovative hybrid power plants designs are being developed all over the world. The Danish Company Floating Power Plant is all set to exhibit the design of its prototype Poseidon 37 at Nordic Green II conference being held in Merino Park, California. Poseidon will be unique commercial power generator which will tap both wind and wave energy to produce 50 gigawatts of energy a year.

The basic idea of renewable energy is to tap renewable natural resources like wind, wave and sun but individually they are not energy efficient and commercially viable. The design of floating Poseidon will ensure that each source of energy will offset the other. The design is based on offshore oil rigs platform, so essentially it will be long sturdy platform in the middle of the sea with tall wind turbines which will also tap energy from the waves and tides.

The power generated from Poseidon will cost around 10 to 15 euro cents per kilowatt hour which is not comparable to current power costs in US and UK. The best part is it is clean green energy. One hopes prototype gets investors and Poseidon will someday become true harnesser of sea and wind power.
