Open Graph might be a tool that will change the Internet as we know it

Facebook announced the creation of the Open Graph, a tool that, in the words of founder Mark Zuckerberg, “is the most transformative thing that has ever been made by the Internet.” The announcement was made at the F8 developer conference.

The big announcement from Facebook is the grouping of several small web sites with the site’s social platform, through the news feed.

Yelp maps the part of the graph on small businesses. Pandora maps the part of the graph related to music,” said Zuckerberg. “If you take these separate maps of the chart and put them all together, then we can build a smarter Internet, social, personal and more semantically aware.”

These connections do not just happen on Facebook, they’re happening across the internet, and now with the Open Graph’re bringing all these things together, is what says the chief executive of the networking site.

Zuckerberg says the flow of information is ephemeral. You put something to share and people see it in a few hours. “We are making it possible to make these connections,” said Zuckerberg. For example, an item of news feed on a review of restaurants Yelp can bring more information about the restaurant to the user of Facebook – as well as it can share with your friends.
