Software maker SAP has taken responsibility for copyright infringement in a lawsuit filed against the company by rival Oracle.
SAP said on Thursday it will accept financial responsibility for “mistakes” made by the subsidiary TomorrowNow, Oracle accused of “corporate theft on a grand scale” in the process.
Oracle, which competes with SAP in the market for software that helps companies automate their functions, filed the lawsuit three years ago, accusing the German company of gaining repeated and unauthorized access to your secure Web site support.
The U.S. company says that this approach allowed SAP to copy thousands of Oracle software products and other confidential materials onto its own servers and compile an illegal library of software code protected by copyright.
In documents submitted, SAP says it will not contest its liability for violations of TomorrowNow.
But companies are diverging on the amount of fair compensation. SAP calculates the damage in the tens of millions of dollars while Oracle has said it may charge more than $ 1 billion.
A spokesman for the U.S. company declined comment.
A hearing on the case will take place on November 1.
