Who wouldn’t remember beautiful Penelope Cruz in the movie Woman on Top where she sensuously taught how to cook food to an appreciative audience! She has come a long way from there and has made her country proud by becoming the first Spanish born actress to win an Oscar.
She played the fiery and tempestuous Maria Elena in Woody Allen’s Vicky Cristina Barcelona. Her artistic portrayal of the role was not only a joy to watch but also was thought provoking. She wore a 60 year old ivory Pierre Balmain vintage gown and was almost in tears when she received the award.
“You have to keep climbing mountains. It’s better not to listen or to engage in those debates,” Penelope said and I swear that is so true.
Penelope is certainly the one of the most versatile actresses around and she has faced a lot of difficulties due to her non-Anglican lineage. Nevertheless, with her beauty and intelligence, she seems to have created a mark for herself. The irony was that she was criticized by critics for her role in Woman on Top, which was a great movie itself.
