naval HQ blast Pakistan Naval Headquarters Hit By Suicide Bomb Attack

After a brief lull in the relentless terror campaign led by militant forces hiding in South Waziristan, Pakistan’s capital, Islamabad was once again rocked by a suicide bomb attack, this time on the country’s naval headquarters. The blast killed 1 person and injured 11 others in a country whose sole survival is now threatened by the exponential increase in the insurgency from terror outfits such as, Pakistan Taliban, Al-Qaeda and also from foreign fighters who have now affiliated themselves with these organizations.

The attack happened in the morning when a young individual approached the headquarters of Pakistan Navy in Islamabad and detonated the explosives when he was confronted by the security forces manning the checkpoint outside the building. A few months ago, terrorists had attacked the army headquarters of Pakistan and lay siege to the facility creating a wide sense of unrest and insecurity across Pakistan.

The attack comes just a day after U.S President Barack Obama committed 30,000 additional troops to the Afghanistan in an effort to reinforce the U.S and coalition forces stationed in the region. Pakistan has been conducting military offensive in its largely lawless tribal areas, also known as the Federally Administered Tribal Area or FATA and has been under increasing pressure from the United States to get rid of the militant forces currently hiding in FATA.

According to Fazeel Asghar (Administrative Official, Pakistan),

“Security officials checked him and one navy police constable, Mohammad Ashraf, asked him to take off his coat. The bomber then blew himself up and the navy constable died in the blast. A total of 11 people were injured, including five soldiers of the Pakistan navy and six civilians. One of them is critically injured. When I reached the main Margalla Road there was smoke near the navy complex. I saw three soldiers lying wounded.”
