One of these fraudulent schools had 3 small classrooms and 3 teachers. The total admissions on ‘record’ was 1,797 students. Another sham college officially had 150 students but secretly admitted 1,178 enrollees with upcoming 1,575 more overseas applicants of which 906 are from Pakistan.
The scam took advantage of a loophole in Britain’s immigration policies. Thousands of Pakistani citizens made use of this loophole ‘to enroll as students at a network of sham colleges.’ The fraud ring behind the scam has been earning millions.
Discovered are 11 colleges in London, Manchester and Bradford ‘owned’ by three young Pakistani businessmen.
£1,000 is charged for admission and fake diplomas to bogus degrees. ‘For false attendance records, diplomas and degrees that were used to extend the students’ stay in Britain,’ each student is charged £2,500.
The fear now is that terror suspects from the geographical source of al-Qaeda and Taliban militants have possibly been entering the UK, as evidenced by the fact that ‘eight of the terror suspects arrested last month in Manchester and Liverpool’ were enrolled at one of these sham colleges, two of whom were ‘enrolled over an 11-month period at Manchester College of Professional Studies.’
