
witnessed the worst floods in years with the heavy downpour of the torrential rainfall. Officials have announced the death of at least 140 people. Manila, the capital city of Philippines is the worst affected with almost 80 percent of the city being submerged under the water. The floods have displaced 450,000 people and more than 115,000 people have moved to makeshift shelters.
The government is doing everything in its power to rescue the people from their plight. A sudden disaster such as this has caught the National Disaster Council off their guard. Although the massive relief operations are taking place, the scale of disaster has overwhelmed them. The government has welcomes international aid. Food, medicines and other basic amenities are being provided to the grief stuck victims.
Many have lost their families and friends. Muelmar Magallanes, a Pilipino man lost his own life while saving 30 people. Many were stranded on their rooftops without food and water. was stranded with his children on the rooftop. He expresses his surprise that he could access internet via his mobile phone while the government struggles with the scarcity of equipments to rescue people. Most people are left with nothing but the clothes there are in. Most of the houses even in the second storey are covered with water and thick mud. More rainstorms are forecasted.
