The desire to have a robot to slave away for us is a dream that many people have had for a long time. Imagine a robot that can be your personal maid and do whatever you wish without questioning your command. The thought may seem futuristic but is not that far from reality.

Healthcare Robotics has been working on Project Clickable World for quite some time now. Although the project is still far from complete, its accomplishments are already awe inspiring. Project Clickable World involves pointing out an object to the robot and communicating your intention to it. With the user’s environment offered in ‘clickable’ virtual mode, the user can click any object that he desires with the use of a virtual button. The object then becomes highlighted for the robot which would immediately pick it up. Once the robot has the object in hand, the user uses another set of virtual buttons with which he can control the robot’s next action.

Couch potatoes may be thinking of how they could instruct their personal robot to get them a beer and change the channels, but this could prove to be a breakthrough for people who are physically unable to carry out such simple actions. Check out a video of the robot in action at Vimeo.
