
The much talked about car of Tata Motors, the Nano will rewrite the transportation history with the promised one lakh car. This ambitious project was contemplated six years back. When Ratan Tata, the chairman of the Tata Group suggested the idea of selling a car at one lakh, there was utter disbelief and even criticized by the competitors
March 23, 2009, was a big moment in the history of the company. Delivering the promise it made to the millions of people in India to sell a car they could afford was a big challenge. The factory price was maintained at one lakh. The showroom price would include the dealer charges, and taxes, rounding the figure at about Rs1, 30,000. Air conditioner and other features are to be charged separately. Tata expects at least 60, 000 units of Nano to be sold in the next financial year.
With the global auto industry majorly hit by the recession, Tata Motors have a lot on their plate as of now. The loss of Rs. 263 crore in the last quarter suggests another tough challenge. With the successful launch of Nano, and the company history of surfacing from the most difficult times, Tata Group just hopes to sail through this economic storm as well
