Pushing new Iran sanctions: count China out this time

Calling it their right to go nuclear, Iran has been belligerent in pursuing its nuclear program which is basically suspected by the West, particularly the US and its Western allies, as an attempt to produce nuclear weapons.

Even if Iran defends its plans and ambitions by saying that its nuclear program will be used for peaceful, civilian, socioeconomic, and medical purposes, the country has received tremendous criticism regarding its plans, as well as sanctions from the United Nations Security Council.

Because Iran has shown steadfast stubbornness to pursue and complete its nuclearization program amidst all diplomatic negotiations against the move, new sanctions are being leveled against the country yet again. This time, not all countries that earlier agreed to sanction Iran agree with the new set of sanctions.

Voice of America News reports that “China’s ambassador to the United Nations says he will not support new sanctions against Iran because diplomatic negotiations on the issue need more “time and patience”.”

China, it seems, wants to exhaust more diplomatic possibilities as countries such as the US are gung-ho at leveling a new set of embargo against Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s government. China believes “that a peaceful settlement of the issue is the best option.” China happens to hold “the rotating presidency of the U.N. Security Council this month” and the country is known to favor dialogue in addressing the nuclear dispute with Iran.
