Pwn2Own 2010 Participants Envision Apple iPhone As Their Easy Way Out To A Win

One of the biggest selling and foremost smart phones in the world, the Apple iPhone is being eyed by the participants of the annual Pwn2Own contest, as their easy way out towards a win. Apple Safari web browser and the iPhone are being considered as two of the easiest platforms, which security experts and researchers will find very easy to exploit or hack due their vulnerabilities. For the 2010 Pwn2Own competition the participants are fairly excited with the inclusion of the iPhone, as last year none of the phones showcased could be exploited.

Pwn2Own is an annual event that provides security experts etc. with a unique platform, where these professionals compete with one another to find and exploit vulnerabilities in various operating systems, web browsers and mobile devices. The ultimate goal being, to find such exploits, that would then give the companies a better understanding of the security parameters needed for these entities. Besides, Apple iPhone, the web browser Safari is also being considered to be a ripe target as its is known to be heavily dependent on Java, Flash, and other third-party plugins.

For this year’s competition, the contestants of the 2010 Pwn2Own will be required to find vulnerabilities in a host of web browsers such as Internet Explorer 8, Firefox 3, Google Chrome 4 and Apple Safari 4, along with a host of mobile smart phone such as iPhone 3GS, BlackBerry Bold 9700, a Nokia E62, and Motorola Droid. The winners of the competition will be awarded with a $10,000 cash prize, a laptop and they will also be allowed to keep the mobile devices they “pwn”.
