Pakistan has stepped up military operations in the troubled Swat Valley, only to face the refugee crisis it is facing now. The Talibans have systematically executed people and also those who are fleeing from Mingora and other places in the Swat Valley. The military is under tremendous pressure both from the Pakistani government and the international community. The audacity with which the fundamentalists are slaughtering the people reveals a darker side to politics, army and religion.
In the first place, it is quite shocking that a democratically elected government declared a ceasefire with known terrorists. Now, fighting them may not be easy at all. However, the situation is still better than in neighboring India where terrorism is deep rooted and knows no bounds whether through religion or politics.
Muslim and Hindu terrorists have murdered many people in this country that hides behind its democratic facade. The “Hindutva” parties may unleash a reign of terror if they come to power. Unfortunately, people do not consider these parties as a threat in India as the attention is diverted to Islamic terrorists, who are just as bad.
