Rising Ocean Levels? No Problem! We’ll Live Under Them In Our Water Skyscraper

With the global warming phenomenon creating rather very uncomfortable weather patterns and the melting the ice shelves from the polar regions, the scientists all across the globe have been worried about the rising ocean levels and the dangers it would pose, especially for the coastal regions. Well, if that threat is making you lose sleep, then a designer from Malaysia, Sarly Adre Bin Sarkum has proposed an incredible solution to this problem in the form of a skyscraper in the water.

Also called, Water-Scraper is in theory designed to entirely self sufficient with its very own power generation unit, that would energize the entire underwater city by harnessing the power of renewable sources of energy such as, wave, wind, current, solar, bio etc. It would living like in Kevin Costner’s “Waterworld”, with a slight difference of us being in the modern technology driven world.

As per Bin Sarkum, the lower submerged part of the Water Scraper will be comprised of a small forest and the lower sections of the structure will provide housing and work space for the occupants. Furthermore, the Water Scraper will be able to maintain its balance in the water with the help of ballasts and specially designed squid like tentacles, that will be able to generate kinetic energy.

This one of a kind proposed design is part of an participating entry in the eVolo 2010 Skyscraper Competition, a platform that calls for innovative and feasible ideas for the next generation of skyscrapers.
