Iowa State University’s researchers have created a unique robot that mimics the learning procedure of children. Thus, the robot tries to learn just like children and do, and it can even make expressive faces. It comes with two Barrett Whole Arm Manipulators which behave as hands and the dual Quickcam act as its head.
The cute robot can learn how to cut ribbons, dropping and picking up and thus proving the robot’s ability for procedural learning, which is seen among children a lot. It would be interesting to see these robots to mimic children as one day robot may supersede us and inherit the world.
It would even give us information about the learning methods used by children, and it is a known fact that Psychology has not been able to find answers for all the problems concerning learning. Maybe it is the time for robots to teach a thing or two to psychologists! I guess it is time we started developing more robots that copy human behaviour in order to help ourselves understand the mysteries of learning and memory.
