Remember the fibbing and lying episodes that you had between your siblings to get the lion’s share of food at home? If you thought it’s only you who could lie about food then perhaps you are wrong. Interestingly, according to a new study, robots too can lie about food just like the humans. A team of scientists at Switzerland’s Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne are releasing a study on robots equipped with artificial neural networks and programmed to locate food, reports Technology Review.
The process of lying about food is literally learnt by trial and error method by the robots. Over time the researchers adopted a few changes by copying and combining the artificial neural networks of the most important robots and changed the code to mimic biological mutations. . Quite dramatically when a robot is seen near the food, a blue light is flashed and this alerts the other robots about the food.
Consequently, the robots learn not to alert each other to the food. Once the robots learnt the trick, majority of them did not flash a light at all. The researchers strongly believe that this experiment will help scientists grasp better how biological communication systems evolve.
