Facebook to buy Twitter? Twitter, also known as tweets, provides social networking services wherein users can update their status and also view other people’s status updates. The latest rumor to do rounds on the blogosphere is that Facebook may go ahead and buy Twitter, causing a major stir among techies and geeks.

Web 2.0 Summit saw a bit of prodding done by John Battelle, the CEO of Federated Media. The CEO of Facebook  Mark Zuckerberg when asked if Twitter was going to be just another feature of Facebook, or if Facebook itself was a tough competitor in microblogging to Twitter,  Zuckerberg rather chose to answer with, “Oh, that’s tough”. Which suggests there is much to speculate because nothing exactly can be said with confirmity.

What more, Battelle further went ahead with the speculation and enquired if “Build-or-buy spreadsheet” of the Facebook chief financial officer implied their approach to consider the acquisition of Twitter. Zuckerberg played safe and rather just appreciated the excellent work and model of Twitter. These rumors are juicy of course, and enough to add fuel to the fire. It is interesting how sometimes rumors might just make the players believe something might just happen and make the prophecies come true, much like the self fulfilling prophecies. In this case, prophecies are uttered by rumor mongers though.
