After a long stalemate between Russia and the Islamic Republic of Iran, Moscow has finally announced that, the S-300 surface to air missile delivery to Tehran, that had been facing delays after delays will be honored as per the deal’s agreement.
According to Seyed Mahmoud Reza Sajadi (Iranian Ambassador to Moscow),
“We had heard reports that Russia would not deliver these systems to Iran, but we asked the Russian side and they denied it. The delivery deadline has already passed, but the Russian side has cited technical problems which it is working to fix. We feel that this question will be resolved in the space of one to two months.”
Recently, Iran had accused Russia of giving into the demands of the Western countries who have been constantly condemning Tehran’s nuclear ambitions and and Iran even went to the length of stating that, any further delay in the S-300 SAM system could lead to a deterioration in Russia – Iran relations. As per the deal, Iran was set to receive five batteries of the S-300 PMU1 surface to air missile system and the deal is expected to cost Iran $800 million.
