RWE ‘Newton’ Ad: Physics made Sexy!

RWE, Dutch Power Company ad spots ‘Newton’ and ‘Static’ does put spot light back on Laws of Physics, electricity and customer service. But unusually it shows ‘women’ interface between them. Ad shop They have broken gender stereotype with this one. But have they?

This reminds of a film which an imaginary encounter between two celebrities, who were poles apart professionally, Einstein and Marlyn Manroe! Amusing part was Einstein explaining laws of Physics to sexy actress. But it did leave distaste. Wonder why physics, factories and lesser sex should continue to be shown as rare combination?

Interestingly this ad shows women serious in full uniform, meaning business and not typical dumb blondes. But yet it’s the very presence of women in heavy industries that catch eyeballs. Hope gender stereotypes and divide lines do get blurred in advertisements, for advertisements do mirror changing social scenarios.

Also vocational, professional genders are getting blurred in reality too. The so called glass-ceiling never existed and has been a gender construct. Perhaps, not worrying about gender stereotypes and just doing what one feels like might be the right thing to do.
