One of the foremost names in the automotive industry, Saab, had unveiled a unique eco-friendly concept car at the 2008 Geneva Motor Show called, 9-X Biohybrid. Now, Saab is reportedly in talks and negotiations with the automobile giant, BMW so as gain access to BMW’s engines and transmissions technology to develop an all new 9-2 Mini. Before the acquisition of Saab by Spyker Cars, it was widely believed that, General Motors would be the entity, that would provide the new platform for the envisioned Biohybrid vehicle.
Both Saab and BMW have maintained silence in regards to the talks and there is still no confirmation to the fact that, whether Saab CEO, Victor Muller has kept these talks exclusive to BMW or if he is negotiating with other automobile manufacturers as well. Saab was seen in a lot of trouble during the early months of 2010, when this sub division of General Motors was acquired by Spyker Cars for $400 million. This all new approach to towards the 9-X Biohybrid is being seen as a measure taken the by the company’s CEO to get the company back on track, as Mr. Muller envisions a sales target of 85,000 by the year 2012.
