Safari Extensions Gallery is released

Apple on Wednesday released an update to Safari – 5.0.1 – introducing the expected Safari Extensions Gallery, a repository organized by the company in which developers have been working to provide tools to supercharge the browser.

Since its launch in June this year, in May warned that Safari will soon officially accept extensions to enhance the Internet experience. The word “officially” fits very well, since some time already could be found some unofficial sources, as the site PimpMySafari.

The Cupertino company has asked developers to create extensions for its new browser since its release in order to be approved. These tools are so well known and approved by users of Firefox and Chrome were developed in HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript, favorite technologies to Apple.

The site CNET says that Apple ensures the safety of the extensions and they cannot access user information or communicate with other websites. Some highlights presented at the top of the gallery are the “Twitter for Safari,” “Bing Highlights”, “New York Times updates,” among others.

To install the extensions, users should install the Safari 5.0.1 update, available for free at Apple.
