We like nothing better than upping luxury by some more luxury. Well, that is the closest we can get to explain the crocodile skin trencoat from Salvatore Ferragamo which apparently is much better than the $150,000 crocodile peacoat from Hermès that had our jaws drop some time ago.
For starters, Salvatore Ferragamo’s creation has been made from the finest crocodile skin that amounts to a stunning $250,000. The trenchoat is full length and double-breasted. Out only on special order, the mattle black coat is hand-made by artisans in Italy. No wonder the designs include epaulettes, D-rings, forearm straps and a silk lining. Ferragamo, the company’s namesake and founder, died in 1960, but we feel he would have approved of this innovative use of crocodile.
We hear that Thomas Burberry is the man who created the first trenchcoat in 1901. The now fashionable coat was originally meant for British army officers alone. But soon that were to be changed making Burberry a fashion mogul. Rest assured, Salvatore Ferragamo takes the rich legacy forward with panache. It’s up to you to appreciate or cringe at the thought of animal leather. The choice is yours!
