In an age where ebooks and E-papers have become the mainstay, old-fashioned paper is not used by many. Moreover, the convenience of E-papers cannot be matched by old papers. E-Papers have been prone to one particular problem which has been about them bending while handling. And this is where the normal old papers score, because they are far more flexible and easy to use.
Samsung Electronics Co Ltd has developed a new flexible electronic paper display, which has color display as well. The product uses carbon nanotubes and replaces them with common electrodes. It comes with a 14.3-inch display and the carbon nanotubes won’t deteriorate even after repeated bending. Apparently, the normal electrodes, which are used in existing epapers, tend to increase resistance and result in malfunctioning.
However, the CNT based electrodes don’t increase the resistance even after bending 100 times. These CNT transparent electrodes are based on Unidym Inc’s technology and come with an average of 90% greater transmittance. The display comes with a reflectivity of 40% and this is what makes it superior to other displays available right now.
