J.T.College students have made the old Japanese practice of keeping a goldfish in a bowl to detect earthquakes, obsolete. They have invented an ‘Earthquake Detector Robot’, which can not avert the destruction, but at least can help in saving lives.
The recent havoc caused by an earthquake in Haiti drove these students to device this robot. This robot, which looks like just another ‘Transformers Toy’, has a simple circuitry. It has two transmitters and a receiver, the transmitter’s circuit is buried deep in the soil, so that it can keep a track of the changing temperatures and water levels and sense tremors. If the tremors are detected, it sets up an alarm and thus it can be used to safeguard lives if not property. It transmits the data to the receiver via microwaves, so there is a very less chance of disruption. Internet can be used to control the operation of this robot.
This college in Surat, India, went public with this invention on 2nd February. This little life-saver could prove useful if only it provides information a well before hand.
Now, you do not have to spend sleepless nights worrying about the earthquake, just install this robot and save yourself from the annihilation. Watch the video here.
