If you were planning to adopt a child, do be sure to consider the child’s criminal history. Yes, you read it right. An 18 year old British teenager was adopted by foster parents who thought he would make a ‘big brother’ to their two young children. The 18 year old adoptee has a history of sexual offenses which he committed on both boys and girls.

The adopting agency and authorities chose not to reveal this vital information to the adopting parents and put the family into a grave situation. The boy raped the parents’ two year old son and continued to molest their young daughter until she revealed the horrific details. The 18 year old boy was sentenced to 6 years in prison and was asked to register as a sex offender. The boy certainly needed help for his predatory instincts though he carries the criminal responsibility.

However, the fault lies with the adoption authorities who hid the fact that he was a sex offender and that he could prove to be dangerous when living with two young children. Nicholas Cooke QC expressed concern about the boy managing to be adopted by an unknowing family. This reveals the bitter situation of adoption which could go terribly wrong if one is not sure what the child was like before being adopted.
