When people say that Indian celebrities are “so full of themselves” they do not actually exaggerate, and in fact it would be an understatement.
When Shah Rukh Khan, the “Bollywood” actor was detained in the U.S. recently as part of routine security checks, the actor threw a tantrum which brought the two countries to a diplomatic standstill. In times when terrorist attacks are so frequent, the U.S. officials were understandably concerned and had to detain him, no matter who he was. he could be a celebrity in India, but elsewhere he is just an ordinary person who is suspected like everyone else, justifiably.
There have been thousands of Muslims and even people from other religions who have been subjected to security checks not just in the U.S. but all across the world. The impunity and disgrace with which Mr. Khan threw a tantrum and kept repeating that “he was hassled” reveals the immaturity and selfishness of certain people who grab every chance to prove their superiority and the state of being “someone special”.
Unfortunately, he is neither special not different and is a suspect when at the airport just like me or anyone else who makes international journeys. Perhaps Mr. Khan must realize that there is a world beyond “Bollywood” and “Shah Rukh Khan” and that thousands of people have fallen victims to terrorism.
BJP, and other political parties rushed to the spoiled actor’s screams and tantrums, and one of the politicians went so far as to say that Americans must be treated the same way. Well, who is stopping them?
It would have been less shameful for the whole nation if a man of his “stature” did not throw temper tantrums especially on foreign soil. And Mr. Khan saying he would not want to step on US soil again is just another example of how full of himself he really is. Does anyone except his fans really care?
