Shinkansen, the fastest train in Japan will soon be superseded by a new model that goes by the same name but is part of the Series E5. The cool new Shinkansen bullet train is under construction and will be ready for test runs in July 2009. We hear that it will be able to touch 320 kilometers by the end of March 2013. On its debut in spring 2011, the train will be made to run only at 300 kph.
JR East has released the drawing of the train model which, we find, is pretty similar to the N700 series except for the nose. Yes, the new Shinkansen has the boldest nose ever that extends to 15-meter pointing in front, made so to further lower aerodynamic friction.
So far all the technicalities are being kept hush-hush but we can safely expect the same distributed electric motor layout as used in the bullet trains so far. The 300KW tractions motors will enable the train to accelerate from standstill to 300km in a matter of just two minutes.
