Obama and Biden

Because Joe Biden thinks he always has a gentleman’s agreement upon every backslapping event with his president, he is confident that his president listens to his every advice regarding the situation in Afghanistan and Pakistan. One of his self-admittedly salient recommendations is not to increase number of troops in Afghanistan. This time, he just might feel that he does not have his president’s confidence anymore. Obama is about to unveil troop surge.

If this happens and Obama does ramp up troops in Afghanistan, Biden has the opportunity to preserve his honor and resign on principle from his position.

To do great service to US taxpayers who oppose the war in Afghanistan, Biden’s resignation will send a strong signal that it is ‘honorable’ to buck ‘a policy that risks American lives, money, and national security.’ The move might even ramp Biden up the political ladder. Lose some, gain more – in the future.

Arianna Huffington says, “Though it would be a crowning moment in a distinguished career, such an act of courage would likely be only the beginning. Biden would then become the natural leader of the movement to wind down this disastrous war and focus on the real dangers in Pakistan.”

‘Biden has become the chief White House skeptic on escalating the war in Afghanistan, specifically arguing against Gen. McChrystal’s request for 40,000 more troops to pursue a counterinsurgency strategy there.’
