Skua: Giving The Car Some Competition

41b Skua: Giving The Car Some Competition

Bicycle fans are taking over the world with the imminent threat of the global warming crisis and saving energy and the recession hitting all of us so hard. But there are still a few other options for those who don’t want to cycle around on two wheels, or sadly can’t do so.

‘Commuter bike for the masses’ competition at the Taipei Cycle Show had quite some cool entries and featuring in its top ten list was the Skua by Adam Lazenby. This velomobile trike concept is quite a beauty with its bold curvaceous lines and would definitely appeal to those who can’t decide between a car and a bike. Adam designed the Skua with the intention of creating a bike that would hold the same qualities as that of a car and thus give it a whole lot of competition.

The user would be in a reclining position within the completely enclosed bike-car which may hamper the viewing capabilities.
Even so, the Skua may be serious competition for cars when you think about how eco-friendly it would be.

Thanks for the link; just a quick correction though. The “commuter bike for the masses” design competition was something that I ran on my blog. It was not associated with the Taipei Cycle show. Taipei also has a competition called the International Bicycle Design Competition, but the two are not related.

The Skua was an entry in my competition which ran late last year. You can read about it here: http://bicycledesign.blogspot.com/2008/10/commuter-bike-for-masses-design.html

You can see the finalists from that competition here: http://bicycledesign.blogspot.com/2009/01/finalists-in-commuter-bike-design.html
