For all you Skype fans, here is interesting news about the famous online telephony service. According to a team of reporters from the New York Times, Skype will soon be sold by eBay to a group of private investors. This includes Netscape founder Marc Andreessen’s new Venture Capital group. With recession going on at high speed, this is the fate that most companies are facing these days. Until recently, it was rumored that Skype’s founders were interested in buying the company themselves but due to financial constraints they couldn’t do so.
It is sad that such a cool site like Skype, which has nearly twice as many users as Facebook is going to be sold. Skype generates approximately $600 million annually. We as Skype user cannot do anything but to wait and watch what kind of new changes will come up along with the acquisition. I only hope that the new owners either retain the old facilities or ameliorate them.
Until proper restructure happens, this will create a lot of anxieties amongst the users of Skype. I hope this doesn’t stop the Skype users from using the site in future. At least I will not stop.

Skype is one of the best VoIP service and that will be the interesting to watch that who this new group of private investors treat Skype, where at the same time market is much mature and Skype have some alternative i.e. Truphone, Vopium or Jajah are available out there.
I use Skype and I love it. The rates are reasonable too. This situation might be the end of Skype. If these so-called investors are greedy (and they usually are), the calling rates for Skype will no doubt rise and people will abandon Skype for something else. Sadly, this might be the beginning of the end for Skype. (my previous post didn’t “hit” for some reason).
Sounds cool to me. I have been using Skype, and I really appreciate the free Skype to Skype calls. I have a family abroad and I thanked Skype because it helps me get closer with my family. If selling Skype will benefit everybody, then this is one great news.
Hey guys thanks for the comments! Let’s just hope and pray that Skype comes up with even better facilities. Skype is indeed very convenient. This has been so far the cheapest mode of communication with people around the world. Let’s just keep our fingers crossed. Do not be disappointed:)
