Travelling needs of metros in developing countries are ever-increasing. That is why Abhishek Biswas, a student of transportation design at the National Institute of Design India, thought of a unique passenger bus that will be able to make its way even through narrow and heavily crowded streets. No wonder it is called the ‘Slimbus’.
The futuristic vehicle will have a compact (1.2 meters in width) size. Inwheel motors will power it. Five wheels will be connected by hydraulically actuated wishbones that shall enable the bus to lean and take sharp turns.
Since the slimbus is meant for a short distance journey, no seats are part of the design so that more and more passengers can be accommodated. So do not expect the comfort and luxury that you get with personal modes of transportation. But I am sure you will realize the traffic change this concept can bring about in countries like India and Brazil. There is also another version of the same model called e2 which is more of a fun vehicle, with an electronically controlled two wheel drive setup.
By the way, Biswas is the same fella who conceptualized two vehicles with TVS motors which were even displayed at the New Delhi Auto Expo 2008.
