A Burmese python snake of 3.6 m scaped from the cage and killed by strangulation a girl of 2 years old in Florida, United States this Tuesday.

The incident happened in the morning in a house in Sumter County, north of Orlando, when a Burmese python that had escaped the night of its cage, bit and strangled the girl, stepdaughter of the animal’s owner, Charles Darnell. Darnell stab the snake, which had kinky around the neck of the child, being able to separate it and then called the emergency service.

The doctors tried to resuscitate the girl but they could not save her.

Jaren Hare, mother of the girl, was also in home of Darnell at the time of the attack, according to police.

Burmese pythons are not poisonous reptiles but they can reach more than six meters in length. According to the Committee on Conservation of Flora, Fauna and Fisheries of the Florida, the pythons are not a original species of snake from the area, but became a problem because they adapted to the conditions of the Everglades and they can reproduce in there.

Their presence in South Florida is attributed to the people who buy them as pets, and when the animals grow, they go to the swamps. In southern Florida it is estimated that there are more than 30 thousand Pitons, according to data from Skip Snow, a biologist in Everglades National Park.
